Tell us a bit about yourself
I was born in Ayrshire, in the front room, at home in Aberdeenshire. I’ve had the privilege to work with some great people in my career who have guided, counselled and inspired me to be better. I’m still trying!
What do you do at ChamberCustoms?
I am the Managing Director; one of the founders of the company that was created on behalf of the British Chambers of Commerce in 2019. With the help of our fabulous network, we have created a new business that delivers compliant customs declarations for traders across the UK every day.
What’s your favourite part of your job?
The people! Those that I get to meet in our Chambers across the UK, the customers that invite us into their businesses and of course the support team at ChamberCustoms who make me smile every day.
What’s the biggest misconception people have about customs clearance?
That it’s easy…. And it can be, but the record keeping and compliance can make it seem complex. Thankfully, the chambers network of agents and our expert team take the mystery out of that for our customers.
What advice would you give a business which is considering exporting overseas?
To talk to another business that is already exporting there and ask them what they wish they’d known before they secured their first deal.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
Going to live music shows, comedy shows and the Theatre. I’ll get it all rolled into one at the Aberdeen Panto on Boxing Day!
If you could choose a superpower, what would it be?
To be able to predict the lottery numbers, just for one week would do.
