Question time!
Tell us a bit about yourself.
Hi, I'm Marika! I’m bilingual in English and Polish, my ultimate comfort foods are ramen and Indian curries, and I enjoy improving processes.
Fun facts:
In April '22 I donated 16 inches (~41 cm) of my hair to Little Princess Trust – a great charity doing fantastic work. (See pics!)
I ran two ultra marathons – D33 Ultra and Glen Ogle 33.
In 2018, I gained an MA in Economics at the University of Aberdeen. My first full time office job was at the Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce. At AGCC, I became proficient at certificates of origin, preferential origin documents and customs declarations. This role led me to a secondment with ChamberCustoms, and I became a fully-fledged CC employee not long after.
I started as a Helpdesk Assistant supporting our UK-wide network of customs agents. Now I'm the Sales Data Analyst and Transit Lead. The rest is history!
What do you do at ChamberCustoms?
I’m the Sales Data Analyst – think process optimisation, and data gathering & reporting 📊. I make sure that our CRM system is working smoothly, and all enquiries get to the right people. I enjoy expressing my creativity though designing and delivering snazzy and engaging presentations. As Transit Lead, I support the UK-wide network of agents with all things transit (aka T1 or TAD) documents.
What’s your favourite bit of your job?
Our Virtual Office! I know it can seem strange to some, but to us, it’s an invaluable tool for collaborative working. It is crucial to effective communication and problem-solving. It’s also a great way to keep the whole team connected while working from home. I can’t imagine not logging in to our VO! PS we do have breakout rooms if we want to get our heads down.
If you want to hear more about how our VO works for us, connect with me on LinkedIn, I’d be happy to answer any of your questions :)
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
You can usually find me exploring the outdoors by some trail running or hiking. I also love listening to audiobooks (anything fantasy fiction, self-improvement, or astrophysics) while cooking another recipe from Great British Chefs.
I’m currently listening to Toksvig’s Almanac,
and Roast cod with lemon beurre blanc and winter ratatouille was a hit with friends and family!
If not doing any of the above, you can catch me watching fashion historians dissecting socio-economic context of dress history and astrophysicists discussing topics out of this world!
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
Just keep swimming, just keep swimming, just keep swimming… 🐠
